Hamburger Steak Patties Recipe

Instructions

1. Make the Patties:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix the ingredients gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to ensure the patties remain tender.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties.

2. Cook the Patties:

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the patties to the hot skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the patties are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should be 160°F/71°C).
  • Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

3. Prepare the Gravy:

  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and golden brown, about 5-6 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw taste of the flour.
  • Gradually add the beef broth, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and ketchup, then simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Simmer the Patties in the Gravy:

  • Return the cooked patties to the skillet and let them simmer in the gravy for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the patties to soak up the delicious flavors of the gravy.

5. Serve:

  • Serve the hamburger steak patties hot, topped with the rich onion gravy.
  • Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.

Tips for Success:

  • Don’t overmix the meat: When forming the patties, mix the ingredients gently to keep them tender.
  • Gravy thickness: If the gravy becomes too thick, add a little more beef broth or water to loosen it up.
  • Adjust seasoning: Taste the gravy as it simmers and adjust the salt and pepper to your liking.

Enjoy this classic comfort food with its savory, flavorful patties and rich onion gravy! Perfect for any occasion, this dish will become a family favorite.
