My Amish friend showed me this « Poor Man’s Steak » recipe. It’s so good. How come I don’t feel poor eating it? 👩🏻‍🍳👩🏻‍🍳

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crumbled saltine crackers, milk, diced onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into oval or rectangular patties, resembling traditional steak shapes.
  4. Lightly coat each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.
  5. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook the patties in the skillet, browning them on both sides (about 3 minutes per side). This step is just to give color and enhance the flavor. Once browned, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
  7. Transfer the patties to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  8. In a separate bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup and milk to create the gravy sauce. Pour the gravy over the patties in the baking dish.
  9. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  10. Serve warm with mashed potatoes, buttered corn, or your favorite side dishes. Enjoy!
