My German nana taught me this and it’s stayed with us since!

Instructions:

  1. Sauté the Onion and Cabbage:
    • Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
    • Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
    • Add the chopped cabbage, season with salt and pepper, and cook until tender, about 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Dumpling Batter:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
    • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and milk. Gradually add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick batter forms.
  3. Cook the Dumplings:
    • Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil.
    • Using two spoons, drop small portions of dumpling batter into the boiling water.
    • Cook until the dumplings rise to the surface and are cooked through, about 3-5 minutes. Remove them with a slotted spoon and set aside.
  4. Combine and Serve:
    • Fold the cooked dumplings into the tender cabbage mixture.
    • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Enjoy your delicious German meal!
