My nana always adds this 1 ingredient to her Christmas stuffing to take it to the next level

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: To 400°F (200°C). Grease a large baking dish and set aside.
  2. Cook the bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium-high heat until it’s cooked through but not fully crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet, drain on paper towels, and set aside. Keep the bacon grease in the skillet.
  3. Sauté the veggies: In the same skillet, melt the butter in the bacon grease over medium-high heat. Add the onion and celery, and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the bacon: Return the bacon to the skillet along with the poultry seasoning. Stir well to combine. Season with freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  5. Combine the stuffing: In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread cubes with the bacon and veggie mixture. Toss to coat the bread thoroughly. Add the beaten egg and mix until everything is well combined.
  6. Bake the stuffing: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top to make it even. Bake in the preheated oven until the stuffing is fully cooked, the bacon is crispy, and the top is golden brown, about 25-30 minutes.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes. Serve hot directly from the baking dish.

Pro Tips:

  • Slightly stale bread works best for stuffing. Let your bread sit out for a day or two for the perfect texture.
  • You could also use precut lardon pieces instead of cutting your own bacon strips.
