Poor Man Cubed Steak

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Step 2: Shape and Coat

Shape the meat mixture into oval patties, similar to traditional cubed steaks. Then, lightly coat each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 3: Cook the Patties

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Brown the patties on both sides until cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Once browned, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 4: Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, if needed, add a little more flour and stir to create a roux (paste). Gradually whisk in the beef or chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 5: Simmer the Patties in the Gravy

Return the cooked patties to the skillet with the gravy. Let them simmer in the gravy for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.

Step 6: Serve

Serve the Poor Man’s Cubed Steak over a bed of mashed potatoes or rice, with the flavorful gravy poured on top.

Enjoy!

This delicious, comforting meal is a perfect, affordable option that will please the whole family. Whether served with mashed potatoes or rice, it’s sure to become a favorite in your home.
