Texas Roadhouse’s Rolls


Instructions:

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

  • Dissolve the yeast in ¼ cup warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to activate. You’ll know it’s ready when the mixture is frothy.

Step 2: Prepare the Milk Mixture

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, warm ½ cup milk and ½ cup buttermilk together. Don’t worry if the buttermilk curdles slightly.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter into the warm milk mixture, then set aside.

Step 3: Mix the Dough

  • In a stand mixer (or large mixing bowl), blend the milk mixture, activated yeast, ¼ cup sugar, a dash of salt, and 1 cup of flour until smooth.
  • Mix in 1 large egg thoroughly.
  • Gradually incorporate the remaining 2 ½ cups flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl, forming a soft, slightly sticky dough.

Step 4: Rise and Shape

  • Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface, then form it into a ball.
  • Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5: Roll and Shape

  • After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about ½ inch thick.
  • Cut the dough into 12 rectangles. Fold each rectangle in half to form a roll, and place them on a lined baking tray.
  • Let the rolls proof for 20 minutes.

Step 6: Bake

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
  • (Optional) Brush the baked rolls with melted butter for a glossy, buttery finish.

Cinnamon Honey Butter:

  • In a medium mixing bowl, whip together 4 tablespoons softened butter, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons honey, and 1 tablespoon powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
