The economic situation is again unstable. Inflation is on the way, food prices are rising, and some are becoming scarce. This is reminiscent of the times of perestroika. In such conditions, it is better not to keep money (rubles) under the mattress, but to invest it in material assets. Someone buys real estate, gold or currency, and ordinary people, in order to feel confident in the face of economic turmoil, stock up on food. Let’s look at which cereals last the longest.
Long-term storage of cereals
We will not consider canned food, as well as salt and sugar, since it is clear that they can be stored for a long time, even longer than the indicated expiration date. Let’s talk about cereals.
Low-fat cereals are best suited for long-term storage. First of all, this is rice. The simplest and cheapest rice (including crushed rice) – without steaming or special processing. The champion for long-term storage is long-grain rice. But ordinary round rice can be safely stored for a couple of years after the expiration date indicated on the package.
Buckwheat and lentils can also be stored for 2-3 years after the stated expiration date. These cereals remain edible! Pasta can retain its nutritional qualities for up to 5 years.
