“I don’t flush the toilet.” How our pensioners save on water

Recently the water supply was turned off in our house. When we got up in the morning, we discovered that there was neither hot nor cold water. In the apartment we only had water in a kettle and it was at the very bottom; there wasn’t even enough water to drink tea. No one at the management company gave us a clear answer. They simply said that there was no water supply in the whole house, they would turn it on during the day.

We decided to have breakfast in a cafe, at the same time we looked at the shops in the shopping center, and also went to the grocery store and bought water in five-liter bottles for every fire emergency.

We returned home around four o’clock in the evening. When we approached the entrance, we saw our neighbor, a pensioner, who lives three floors below, on a bench. We said hello, my husband asked her if the water had been turned on; after all, we had not been home for a long time, and we hoped that by the time we returned there would already be water.

The neighbor looked at us in surprise and asked in response:

– Why is there no water?
