What goes into borscht first: cabbage or frying? Every 2nd housewife doesn’t know the answer

Each housewife has her own unique recipe for borscht, and it is the correct order of adding ingredients that plays an important role in creating its taste and appearance. But many people don’t know what to send first – cabbage or fried meat.

Experienced cooks agree that vegetables should be added to the broth only after it has been cooked. The longer the meat cooks, the richer the broth will be. The meat should be cooked for at least 1.5-2 hours.

If you are preparing borscht with beans, you need to cook it together with the meat. After preparing the broth, vegetables are added in the correct sequence.

Potatoes are placed first in the broth; the cooking time for potatoes depends on the variety – young or old. Young potatoes will need 15 minutes, and old potatoes 25 minutes.

After the potatoes, you should add cabbage to the borscht. The cooking time for cabbage depends on its freshness – from 5 to 15 minutes.
